Nadir, The old SC400 was a rebadged version of the Japanese market Toyota Soarer. Although the Soarers came with a V8 option (called the GT) which made it the same as the Lexus SC, it was rare. The common engine choice is actually a 2.5L TT that made 280 hp. This car made it a competitor to the high-end TT supercoupes of japan, namely the TTZ, Mitsubishi GTO (3000GT), Supra, and surprising even the Subaru Legacy GTB. That being said, the new SC430 though marketed here as a successor to the SC400 in Japan is a totally different animal. Toyota will sell another car called the Soarer which is the SC's true descendent. The SC430 here will sell under another name in Japan. Therefore I don't really compare the new SC to the old one. They are totally different cars.
